چکیده

For petential applicfttion in the ecenomic productien of bacterial cellu)ose, cellulose-producing Acetobacter strains capable of using suerose as a carbon source were screened for using corn steep liquor as a nitrogen source. A total of ISOe strains were iso]ated and four were selected through $tatic and shaking fiask eultuves, Much higher cellulose accumulatieii was obseryed im a jar fermentor using these strains in sucre$e-CSL mediuryE than seen using the preyiously isolated strain, BPR2001, in fructose-CSI, medium. It was found that these strains also had high cellu)ose prodiuction from glucose. The pH of the cultures of the iselated strains did not decrease, and it was suggested that these straiies have lo-' glucose-oxidizing ftbillty. tion were seiected, and then finaily evaluated using ajar fermentor (Fig, 2). High leyels of cellulose production were observed with strains 757, 771, and 184, which had been isolated from melon, eherry, and grape, respectively. The amount of accumulated ce1lulose was greater than that observed with BPR2001 cultured in CSL-Frc medium,`) Cellulose production by BPR2001 (used as a control) in a shaking fiask culture was only 1.8 glliter, and the pH in the culture fell to 3.0. It is known that sucrose is first degraded into glucose and fructose (and an appreciable amount of levan, which is a polymcr of fructose) and then metabolized.6) Most Acetobacter

Screening and identification of biosurfactant producing marine bacteria from the Caspian Sea

Marine microorganisms have unique physiological properties and novel metabolites such as biosurfactant to live in extreme habitats (e.g. oil polluted environment). The aim of this study was to characterize some biosurfactant-producing bacteria collected from sediment and seawater samples from the Caspian Sea. These bacteria were isolated using enrichment method in ONR7a medium with crude oil as...

Isolation, Screening and Characterization of Hyaluronidase Producing Bacteria

Hyaluronidase has a panoramic use in biotechnology processes and therapy due to its therapeutic, pathophysiological, physiological and biological importance. Since much of the preparations of hyaluronidases are from animal source (bovine and ovine testicular sources) with limited sources of microbial origin, that prompted the authors to screen and isolate a new promising bacterial strain ...

Screening of Alginate Lyase-Producing Bacteria and Optimization of Media Compositions for Extracellular Alginate Lyase Production

Background: Alginate is a linear polysaccharide consisting of guluronate (polyG) and mannuronate (polyM) subunits. Methods: In the initial screening of alginate-degrading bacteria from soil, 10 isolates were able to grow on minimal medium containing alginate. The optimization of cell growth and alginate lyase (algL) production was carried out by the addition of 0.8% alginate and 0.2-0.3 M NaCl ...

SCREENING FOR STARCH-HYDROLYSING BACTERIA

Screening of3000 soil samples collected from cities of four different provinces of Iran for starch-hydrolysing bacteria revealed that the nature is enriched with Streptomyces species capable of producing amylolytic enzymes. Among the bacterial isolates, one of the high starch-degrading strains was selected for further microbiological identification and also amylolytic enzyme(s) characteriza...
